A Day in the Life of a Home Stager

Have you ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes of a home stager? If you've ever marveled at beautifully presented homes on property listings and thought, "Wow, that looks stunning!"—chances are, a skilled home stager was hard at work making that magic happen. But what does a typical staging day actually look like? Let’s dive into a day in the life of a home stager!

Early Start: Prepping for the Stage

Staging days begin bright and early—usually around 6 or 7 AM. Preparation is key, and much of the work begins long before staging day itself. Days in advance, time is spent designing the space, selecting furniture and decor, and creating a detailed mood board to guide the setup. This ensures a seamless process when staging day arrives.

Before heading to the property, the staging team carefully selects the necessary inventory. The van is packed strategically—furniture is wrapped in blankets or bubble wrap for protection, accessories are boxed up, and soft furnishings like cushions and throws are placed in large bags for easy transport. Attention to detail at this stage prevents any mishaps during transit!

On the Road: Heading to the Property

Once the van is loaded, it’s time to hit the road. Our projects vary in location, sometimes just 30 minutes away, other times up to an hour and a half, covering Kent and Southeast London. Travel time provides a moment to mentally plan the setup and anticipate any challenges the property may present.

Arrival & Unloading: The Transformation Begins

Upon arrival, the team jumps into action, unloading the van and placing items in their designated rooms. This is where my role as the project manager really kicks in—I get hands-on, directing the team on furniture placement and ensuring everything is positioned for maximum impact. Typically, we have two stagers handling styling and finishing touches, while another two team members focus on furniture assembly. However, the team size varies depending on the scale of the project.

Bringing the Vision to Life

Once all furniture is assembled and in place, it’s time for the details—the part that truly makes a house feel like a home. We hang curtains, dress beds with fresh linens, add decorative cushions, style the bathrooms with bath trays and accessories, lay down rugs, and hang artwork to tie the whole look together. It’s a meticulous process, and no matter how many times I’ve staged a home, I always find myself making final adjustments to get it just right.

The Final Touch & A Well-Deserved Reward

After hours of hard work, the property is transformed and ready for the estate agent’s photos and upcoming viewings. A well-staged home increases buyer interest, often leading to quicker sales and higher offers—so every detail matters!

As for the team, after a long and physically demanding day, we have a little tradition: a celebratory Chinese takeaway. Cooking is the last thing on our minds after a full day of lifting, arranging, and perfecting every corner of the home.

And that’s a wrap! Another successful staging day complete, ready for the next project. Home staging is an exciting, rewarding, and sometimes exhausting job—but seeing a once-empty space turn into a dream home makes it all worth it.
